Nurse Residency

Are you ready for your nursing career to take off? Our Nurse Residency Program can help make that happen.

The Blessing Hospital Nurse Residency Program was developed in partnership with  Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing in Quincy, IL, and Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. The Blessing Hospital Nurse Residency Program was selected from over 100 applications in the United States to be funded in 2003-2006 by the federal government through the Nurse Reinvestment Act of 2002. It was one of only 22 federally funded programs, the only one in the Tri-State area. Over 100 RNs were involved in the original program.

The Nurse Residency Program currently provides up to 6months of orientation in specialty areas (Obstetrics Labor and Delivery, Emergency Department and Surgical Services). Approximately eight to twelve weeks in all other areas. It is a program   tailored to support the RN who is a new graduate (novice to advanced beginner) or a current nurse transitioning to a new care setting:

The Residency Program provides:

• Individualized orientation for the RN
• Mentorship from one, who has applied for the position, received training and is compensated for sharing their wisdom.
• Mentor and unit team support for transition from Novice to  advanced beginner to independent practice.

Your chosen profession requires dedication, and as a new graduate the focus must be on learning the culture of the unit you have chosen, and building skills. Our Nurse Residency Program provides support and resources, including a library on the 11th street campus to allow review of information as needed.

The Nurse Residency Program will help you become more confident in your clinical judgment and skills, more comfortable in your role and more satisfied with your job! The Nurse Residency Program is offered to all RNs who are new to Blessing and Ilini hospitals.
