Giving Opportunities

The Blessing Foundation maintains a full-time professional staff to help prospective donors make their gifts - small or large - in the smartest and most meaningful way. Donations may be unrestricted so they can be applied as most critically needed, or restricted to specific programs and services. They may be for immediate use or added to an endowment so the interest earnings will be available each year in perpetuity.

Many gifts received by the Foundation each year are given to honor or memorialize loved ones. Those making major gifts through a legal device such as a will, trust or annuity should consult with the Foundation staff as well as their attorney to assure proper documentation of their philanthropy.

Current Charitable Needs
There are many programs and services provided by Blessing Hospital that, while essential, cannot financially be sustained.

  • Unrestricted gifts to Blessing Hospital or the Blessing Foundation allow these programs to be continued, expanded and improved. Preventive health screenings, the nurse intern program, SIU program funding, and the Community Outreach Clinic all are examples of this kind of need.
  • Unrestricted donations to the Blessing Foundation are placed in an endowment fund for perpetual use in improving the quality, variety and availability of healthcare services for the benefit of all people living in our region.

There are also a number of services with established funds for donated gifts. They are listed below - many with links to other areas of the website so you can learn more about the services and care provided. Some funds also list specific ways donations are used. For those without an explanation, donations are held by the Blessing Foundation for use by the department when the need arises.

  • Blessing Behavioral Center - donations are used to purchase items needed to assist staff in providing appropriate treatment for patients dealing with emotional and social difficulties.
  • Blessed Beginnings, the Birth Center of Blessing Hospital - accepts gifts that are used to support continuing education of maternity staff, provide educational classes for expectant mothers and their significant other, and further develop the BABY program- a prenatal program available to all women.
  • Blessing Breast Center - a special fund has been established to provide mammograms for income-eligible women and for educational opportunities for patients and staff.
  • Blessing Cancer Center - donations are used for unmet patient needs of those served by the Cancer Center and for continuing education of oncology staff.
  • Blessing Lauretta M. Eno Child Care Center
  • Blessing Heart & Vascular Center
  • Blessing Home Care
  • Blessing Hospice & Palliative Care - gifts to this program are used to help sustain, expand and continually improve the special kind of care provided to Hospice patients and their families. They are also used to enhance staff education and make available the newest techniques for rendering clinical, emotional and spiritual care.
  • Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing - donations are placed in endowed funds which are managed by The Blessing Foundation. Income from these funds is used to enhance academic and student life programs and to provide financial assistance to students and faculty development.
  • Caring Club - annual membership signifies your sincere concern that quality healthcare should always be available and accessible to every person in the Hospital's service area regardless of their background or financial resources. This is the basic foundation that supports Blessing's Health System as our region's true comprehensive hospital and health center.
  • Community Outreach Clinic (COC) - a community health program supported by Blessing Affiliates, Inc., and the Quincy medical community, located within the Blessing at 14th St. Campus. Gifts donated to the COC assist in providing non-emergency primary care for adults, ages 18 to 64, at no cost to the patient. Individuals eligible for the COC do not qualify for health care through Public Aid, Medicare or other health insurance plans.
  • Intensive Care Unit - gifts to the ICU are used to purchase advanced equipment and provide continuing education for staff, which improves their ability to maintain or save lives of critically ill patients.
  • Oncology Unit/5400 - donations are used to purchase items which promote better care and a more pleasant environment for those who must be confined to the Hospital while receiving treatment for cancer.
  • Radiation Therapy Department
  • Rehabilitation Services - donations provide items needed for rehabilitation and to provide programs that help patients deal with the emotional and social difficulties associated with physical challenges.
  • Quincy Hospitality House - donations are used to providing housing grants to guests in financial need and for improvements to the House.
  • Renal Dialysis
  • SHARE program - gifts to SHARE help maintain the community resource library which provides books, literature and appropriate materials to families coping with the death of a child.
  • Skilled Nursing Unit - gifts are used to provide equipment or special amenities which will assist the staff in meeting the needs of patients and adding touches to the facility which make it more comfortable and appealing to those it serves.
